White Male Privilege

White, male, and privileged talking. Born in the '60s in London, UK, to a working-class family that, while not rich, made sure I never knew what it was to be hungry or cold. I had free education, a full grant that took me to university to study computing, and a qualification that kept opening doors for me. I worked hard to make the most of those opportunities, but no harder than countless others who never got the same lucky breaks. AI The Final Coundown

Regarding AI, these are the three issues in order of urgency that concern me: AI being used by bad actors as a highly effective means of propaganda that makes missiles and mortars look like stoneage axes by comparison. Before ChatGPT had the safety switches enabled I asked it to write me a rousing patriotic essay on why it was good and necessary to kill Jews. What it produced was terrifying (see below) Whether you like it or not, AI is coming for white-collar jobs. I have had ChatGPT write me a will that a lawyer was shocked at how good it was, and I routinely ChatGPT for generating code snippets and language translations. YES, there are often errors. But those criticising AI for those errors need to frame this in that it has taken 3.7 billion years for life to evolve on planet Earth and only 100 years on from the first logic gate to get to a stage where we can have a conversation of sorts with a piece of software that has not to be programmed for an algorithmic response.
