Euovision 2021

Eurovision 2021 Final Results

Eurovision has always been political. Neighbouring and allied countries have always supported each other.

Personally, I did not much like the UK entry but by no stretch would I say it was the worst. My opinion is neither important nor particularly significant beyond that I will assert that if I thought it was not the worst, then it's statistically unlikely that absolutely everyone voting thought it was the worst.

Someone posted that the UK's poor Eurovision result was not at all political and entirely down to 'bland, unappealing singer, poor styling, tacky staging, meaningless lyrics, zero choreography' But these criticism have never been obstacles to songs doing well in Eurovision in the past!

Nil Point from panellist and the public is down to how the UK is now perceived after the way it is behaving.

UK Brexit MEPs at the opening of the EU Parliament
Gunboats to Calais, AirCraft Carriers on world tour, EU persons slammed into prison-like detention centres and deported for not have the correct paperwork, flag-waving on government TV broadcasting like I have not seen since the Third Reich. And then the behaviour of our Brexit MEPs

Are you sure UK's post-2016 behaviour has nothing to do with Nil Points?

To me, saying this result is not political looks rather like seeing your neighbour's wife emerge for the third time in the year with a black eye and accepting her excuse that she walked into the door again.

Actions have consequences. And ignoring and standing silent whilst this rogue government destroys our international reputation has consequences for all of us, especially the next generation.

Zero points out of 4,524 awarded and it's entirely down to the song?

Of course in all this, the UK's James Newman lost out big time. Maybe he did not deserve to win, but he assuredly deserved more than nil points. Sorry, James.
